Help End Plastic Pollution During Earth Month 2018

Earth Day 2018 is just around the corner on April 22nd and the theme for this year is plastic pollution, the main environmental problem we are addressing with the Cleanyst mixing platform.  With headlines about plastic waste constantly in the news, it is no surprise why this global problem is the focus of the upcoming Earth Day. As Earth Day Network, the nonprofit organization behind Earth Day and the world’s largest recruiter for the environmental movement bluntly puts it:  “From poisoning and injuring marine life to disrupting human hormones, from littering our beaches and landscapes to clogging our waste streams and landfills, the exponential growth of plastics is now threatening the survival of our planet.”

The good news is that we are becoming increasingly aware of the problem and how to prevent it from getting worse.  On account of this growing awareness throughout the world, many stakeholders, including governments, businesses and individuals are taking action.  To avert the worst, which for me is exemplified by the frightening possibility that there will be more plastic than fish in the oceans by 2050 if nothing is done, all stakeholders must do their part.  From the government that bans certain problematic materials like Styrofoam, to the business that streamlines its packaging, to the individual who commits to bottle reuse, every step counts.

Cleanyst is seeking to make an evolutionary leap forward in reducing plastic waste from home and body care products by offering an alternative to the traditional linear packaging model, which is characterized by three words—make, use and discard.   With our circular approach to packaging, plastic bottles are reused rather than discarded. By mixing cleaning and personal care products with the Cleanyst platform, the average U.S. household will eliminate over 75 bottles per year from the waste stream, reducing plastic packaging waste from these products by more than 50 percent.  This is not to mention the positive impact we make on another existential environmental threat, namely that of global warming. By mainly shipping active ingredients in the form of concentrates, we shrink the carbon footprint from transporting our products to the marketplace by up to 88 percent.

If you want to do more about the problem of plastic waste this April, the Earth Day Network is offering some amazing resources to help you get started.  Download their Plastic Pollution Primer and Action Toolkit and join the fight to end plastic pollution today.  We recommend that you first calculate your plastic pollution footprint and then develop a personal plan for reducing it.  Hopefully your plan will include reusing home and body care product bottles with the Cleanyst platform. Always remember that small steps add up over time and can make a huge, positive impact, especially when we all take action.  Finally, please share your progress with family and friends and be sure to enlist them in the fight to end plastic pollution!
